Administration Consulting and Faculty Training

Administration Consulting and Faculty Training

My consulting services are tailored to schools that are looking to implement or improve Singapore-based math programs. This support helps administrators and teachers navigate the unique challenges that come with adapting to this teaching approach, offering customized guidance on curriculum planning, pedagogy, and assessment strategies.

Implementation Planning

A successful and sustainable launch of one of these curricula is founded on multiple complex factors such as textbook selection, adoption models, faculty buy-in and parent education. By working closely with schools, I help administrators and faculty navigate the adoption proce3ss to ensure that these programs lead to long-term improvements in math instruction.

Teacher Training Seminars

Research has proven that Singaporean-influenced math programs are effective only when teachers have been well trained in both mathematics content and Singaporean pedagogy. I typically recommend a 2-3 day training course for schools new to implementing Singaporean mathematics. I focus the training on introducing teachers to the unique visual teaching techniques made famous in Singapore and the major differences between typical U.S. curricula and Singaporean approaches. My goal is for teachers to leave the training feeling confident and enthusiastic about the new curriculum without feeling overwhelmed. Most schools also schedule follow-up visits or online coaching for me to observe or coach their teachers during the school year and answer practical questions as they arise in practice.

New Users Seminars

  • Tactics for teaching place value and building algorithms
  • Singaporean pedagogy for mental math and number sense
  • Problem solving and bar modeling techniques
  • Lesson planning and assessment with Singapore-influenced textbooks

Experienced Users Seminars

  • Advanced bar modeling
  • New tactics for mental arithmetic

Small Group training
If a small group of 3-5 teachers, perhaps a grade-level team, shares common interestes and goals, the same topics above can be addressed through small group meetings. These meetings are less focused on individual needs but can be excellent catalysts in beginning the coaching process.

Faculty Webinars
If circumstances prevent an in-person training, it is possible for me to deliver a live webinar to your faculty. I can present video, live presentations, and powerpoint slides to discuss focused topics with your faculty without the added costs of travel and the challenges of scheduling. Afternoons or after school sessions tend to work well, with webinars lasting from 1-3 hours. Past topics include:

  • Overview of Singapore Math principles for textbook research committees or new hires at a school
  • Mental Math strategies for targeted grade bands
  • Bar Modeling and problem solving skills for targeted grade bands
  • Differentiation strategies for Singapore-influenced math programs
  • STEM integration with Singapore-influenced math programs
  • Homework and assessment in Singapore-influenced math programs
